Again, if I am off base, speak up, please! The final three packages all appear to be concerned with NVIDIA video cards: libvdpau-va-gl1 | nvidia-vdpau-driver | nvidia-legacy-340xx-vdpau-driver. #ADDON COULDNT BE LOADED WITH MEDIAPORTAL PVR INSTALL#Since I am not an audiophile, the only one of these that seem at all reasonable to install is the final one since it will allow the audio to be recorded in mp3 format (I think). On the other hand, if I am missing some important consideration, please don't let me remain ignorant! Next are three packages that appear to be concernbed with encoding audio: kodi-audioencoder-vorbis | kodi-audioencoder-flac | kodi-audioencoder-lame. All I think I would really want/need is the most basic PVR. #ADDON COULDNT BE LOADED WITH MEDIAPORTAL PVR TV#Can anyone out there more experienced with Kodi explain to me what the differences between these are? I get my TV OTA, so I really don't have a need for a PVR with all kinds of bells and whistles designed to function optimally for cable or satellite. Both of these are web servers, so I should only need to install one of them, right? Then there is httpd which would be installed as it would work with either apache2 or lighttpd, correct? Next come 8 different PVR packages which I will list: kodi-pvr-vdr-vnsi | kodi-pvr-njoy | kodi-pvr-nextpvr | kodi-pvr-mediaportal-tvserver | kodi-pvr-tvheadend-hts | kodi-pvr-dvbviewer | kodi-pvr-argustv | kodi-pvr-iptvsimple. So among the 'Suggested' packages is apache2 and lighttpd. If I understand this whole 'recommended' and 'suggested' packages thing correctly, I don't HAVE to install ANY of them in order for the package I installed to work correctly, BUT I also appreciate that by NOT installing some of them, I may be missing out on some truly 'gee-whiz' features and I really don't want to do that either.Īlright. So far, all I have managed to do is to cause myself further confusion. Having been burnt before just blindly installing anything and everything that is recommended or suggested, I copied the list of packages to my text editor for some closer inspection and research. The installation went fine, but there were a large number of 'Suggested' packages. This evening I installed the most current version of XBMC or Kodi, or whatever in the hell you want to call it. I chose Mint 18.2 as the operating system because of all the derivatives of Ubuntu that I have experienced thus far, I like the performance of Mint better than the others. I'm in the process of taking a rehabilitated Optiplex GX-620 and turning it into a home theater PC.
